The group’s story begins in 1985, when William Naraine (singer, born in London on 29th of December 1965, under the sign of Capricorn), Franco Amato (musician, born in La Spezia on 21st of August 1963, zodiac sign Leo) and Andrea De Antoni (DJ, born in La Spezia on 9th of October 1966, zodiac sign Libra) joined together in artistic collaboration.
In 1991 the boys met the producer Roberto Zanetti, and from then on there was no looking back.
In December of the same year the track, "Please don’t go" was recorded. It was released in January 1992 and was an instant hit.
Double You began touring Europe and appeared on many TV shows around the world. They were to become the phenomenon of the world dance scene.
With more than three million copies sold, "Please don’t go" earned an abundance of gold and platinum records in such countries as Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Greece, Turkey, Eastern Europe, Latin America (every country) and many states of Africa and Asia.
The record also sold well in North America (top ten maxi sales) and in the UK (no. 2 on the cool cuts chart). "Please don’t go" was the biggest dance hit of 1992.
The second single "We all need love" was recorded in June 1992 during a European tour. It strengthened and confirmed the worldwide success of Double You as it quickly climbed to the top position of many of the world’s charts.
This second single was followed by the first album, "We all need love", which put together such songs as, "Who’s fooling who" (the third single which was released in September ‘92) and "Why" (let’s make it Christmas) which Double You performed together with the original composer and singer of "Please don’t go", Harry Casey, professionally known as "KC". “Why” was released in the pre-Christmas period of 1992.

The next track "Looking at my girl" was a great success in the whole of Latin America, particularly in Brazil, where it retained the top chart position for three consecutive months.
Other songs included on the album were "Drive", "Walking on the Chinese wall", "You are my world", "Going back" and "With or without you".
At the end of 1993, Double You began recording their second album, "The Blue Album". "Missing you", the single which preceded the release of the album had great success in Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Latin America
"Part time lover" was the second single from the album and was a hit all over Europe, particularly in France (where the group appeared in the most important European pop-dance music show "Dance machine- Bercy”, which also featured many other well known groups such as East 17, Ace of base, New Kids on the Block, Culture Beat, 2 Unlimited, Haddaway and so on). It was also particularly successful in Germany where the group participated in all the most influential German music shows.
A further single, "Heart of glass" met with outstanding success in Spain and in Eastern Europe.

The single "Run to me" was a big hit in the Netherlands, Spain and the USA. This song gave the group the chance to stage their first tour in North America (1995) where they performed in such locations as Miami, Daytona, Orlando and many other towns along the east cost.
The biggest surprise for the group was the extraordinary sales in Brazil. In a short time, the album sold more than three hundred thousand copies, earned a platinum disc and definitively confirmed Double You’s success.
The group performed in Brazil’s greatest theatres and concert-halls, for example, the "Metropolitan" (Rio de Janeiro), that has seen such great artists as Diana Ross, UB40, James Brown, Peter Gabriel, Tears for fears and many more and the "Olimpia" (San Paolo), which has also seen a plethora of famous artists, including Sting, David Bowie, Toto, Simple Minds, Sinead O’Connor, Peter Gabriel and Alanis Morisette.
The tour was an unprecedented success for a dance group.
In less than three months they performed sixty-four shows and established a concert attendance record for a single dance artist of more than three hundred and fifty thousand people!

A real Double You-mania was gripping Brazil!
In 1995 a new single "Dancing with an angel" was released. This time the group decided to add the voice of Sandra Chambers. The success in Italy was overwhelming!
The group was present at the greatest summer shows, establishing "Dancing with an angel" as the summer hit of 1995. The song was not only a great success in Italy; Switzerland, Australia, Israel and Latin America loved it too!
Double You then embarked on an eight month Italian tour.
In the meantime, the next single was released, "Because I’m loving you". It was released in many versions, each one very different from the other and was a big hit in Spain, Italy and Brazil. It was one of the most aired tracks on European radio.
At the beginning of 1996, Andrea De Antoni left the group to pursue his solo career.
Due to such great demand in Brazil, Double You embarked on another tour and again performed in the country’s most important concert halls. One of the high points of the tour was the massive show at Uberaba where they performed in front of a crowd of fifty thousand!
The group decided to dedicate the album "Forever" to all their Brazilian fans as it was produced partly in Italy and partly in Brazil. The album was only released in Brazil and sold one hundred and fifty thousand copies. Within three months it was awarded a gold disc.

After a two year break spent in the studio creating new songs for their next album, the new single “Somebody” was released in spring 1997.
